About

About Me

My name is Laney Currin and I am passionate about sharing stories via the written word. I am currently enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel hill, where I am a double major in Media & Journalism Major and English & Comparative Literature with a concentration in creative fiction writing.

I have been reading and writing my entire life. I have had very high aspirations for myself academically and socially from a young age, but I had never had a clear idea of what I wanted to pursue as a career. However, writing has always been a constant outlet for my extensive creativity and emotions. Writing and reading have allowed me to release intense emotions, whether they are negative or positive, to escape to worlds beyond reality and build relationships with characters that I have come to know and love. I would always try to write my own, often cheesy, books, poems, and short stories as a child and the dream of writing always stuck in the back of my mind until I reached RJ Reynolds High School. My creative writing teacher noticed that I had a way with words, thus reigniting my dreams of writing as a career. I took all English classes available to me: Shakespeare, Journalism, AP Language and Composition, AP Literature and I was named editor of the yearbook at my high school. My role as an editor allowed me to blend my creativity with a business-like setting, giving me an idea of ways my creative talents can be used in a journalistic sense.

My ultimate goal in my career as a writer is to become a published author. I feel that I have so many stories and perspectives to share with those willing to listen. I created a website to express my love for all things writing and books. It is titled “Laney’s Lit Corner” on a site called Convene Communities. On this site, I post snippets of my life related to reading and writing, discussion boards about various books, and some of my own works, along with prompts. This project has been a rewarding, creative endeavor that I will continue to perfect and expand throughout my college career as I develop and share my love of literature. I have come a long way from the young girl who sat in her room scribbling in one of her many journals. I still have much to learn and I am eager to be in an environment where there are peers just as hungry as I am to grow as a writer.  I will follow my passion for writing no matter what comes my way.
